Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday provided major relief to disaster-affected families by distributing Rs 81.28 crore through direct benefit transfer to 4,914 beneficiaries during a function held at Paddal Ground, Mandi.
The financial assistance aims to help families whose houses were either completely or partially damaged during the recent natural calamities.

A total of 1,513 beneficiaries whose houses were completely destroyed received the first installment of Rs. 4 lakh each out of the total relief package of Rs. 7 lakh. Of these, 781 beneficiaries belong to Mandi district, 631 to Kullu and 101 to Bilaspur. Similarly, 3,401 beneficiaries whose houses were partially damaged were given Rs. 1 lakh each, including 1,547 from Mandi, 1,541 from Kullu and 313 from Bilaspur district.
The Chief Minister said that the government has already distributed Rs. 14.46 crore in relief assistance to 4,375 affected families in Mandi district.
He added that 27 disaster mitigation projects worth Rs. 72 crore are being implemented in Mandi to strengthen resilience against future calamities.
The State Executive Committee has also approved five more projects worth Rs. 18.84 crore, while proposals for seven additional mitigation projects are under preparation.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister launched the “Madhu Mandav” initiative in Mandi district to promote beekeeping as an alternative livelihood, particularly in disaster-affected areas.
Under this programme, beneficiaries will receive financial support, training and technical assistance to establish beekeeping units.
The honey produced under this initiative will be marketed under the brand name Him-Era Mandav.
During the event, the Chief Minister also extended support to Nikita, a young girl who lost her parents in the floods at Panglyur in the Seraj Assembly constituency, by presenting her a cheque of Rs. 7.95 lakh.
He further announced additional financial assistance of Rs. 21 lakh for her, saying that daughters like Nikita are not alone and that the state government stands firmly with them.
